Our History

1990

FOUNDATION

The Libyan African Investment Company (Laico) is established under Provision No. 660 of the Libyan government.

2006

ACQUISITION

Laico is acquired by the Libya Africa Portfolio (LAP) with a share capital of 992,912,800 Libyan Dinars.

2008

THE BEGINNING OF THE INVESTMENT

Laico invests in the Grand Hotel Tripoli, a five-star hotel in the heart of the Libyan capital.

2010

THE ACQUISITION OF LAICO

Laico expands its portfolio with the acquisition of several properties in Morocco, including the Kenzi Tower Hotel in Casablanca.

2012

PLANS TO INVEST

Laico announces plans to invest in South Sudan, with a focus on developing the country's hospitality and real estate sectors.

2014

THE DEVELOPMENT

Laico partners with the African Export-Import Bank to invest in the development of the hotel industry in Africa.

2017

ENTERING THE TUNISIAN MARKET

Laico opens the Laico Hammamet Hotel in Tunisia, marking its entry into the Tunisian market.

2019

EXPANSION IN NORTH AFRICA

Laico acquires the Sheraton Tunis Hotel and the Sheraton Annaba Hotel in Algeria, further expanding its presence in North Africa.

2021

CONTINUE PERFORMING THE TASK

Laico continues to pursue its mission of investing Libyan funds in Africa and beyond, with a focus on hospitality, hotels, and real estate, while diversifying its portfolio with multipurpose sub-holding companies.
